TIC 2008-2009 Season to Begin Soon!

Students throughout Martinsville City and the counties of Henry, Patrick, and Franklin have eagerly been awaiting a special day since school began...egg delivery day! Beginning on December 5th, over 25 area schools will recieve shipments of eggs for the Trout-in-the-Classroom (TIC) Program.

These lucky students will spend the next several months learning watershed awareness by raising the brown trout from eggs to fingerling then releasing them into the Smith River at the end of the school year. While taking care of the trout, students learn ecosystem connectivity, animal husbandry, and water quality issues.

Trout-in-the-Classroom is sponsored locally by Dr. David Jones of Martinsville and supported by The Dan River Basin Association through a grant from the Harvest Foundation of the Piedmont. The following slide show is an overview of the program.
