Students at Albert Harris Elementary were squirming in their seats anxiously waiting for the big surprise Activate had for them. Grinning ear to ear when Activate staff unveiled the first place 2008 golden sneaker award, the children squealed with joy when it was presented to principal, Natasha Rowell.
But that was only the beginning of the surprise as Jeannie Frisco, Activate Program Director presented a life-size check to the students and faculty for having the most participation of any school in the International Walk to School Day event.
Martinsville Middle School placed second in the event and students were already contemplating how to take first place in 2009. Patrick Henry Elementary placed third and is working on 100% participation for the next challenge.
